How does Music Therapy work?

Music Therapy is the use of Music for addressing the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of a group or individual.  It employs a variety of activities such as listening to melodies, playing an instrument, drumming, writing songs. Music Therapy is appropriate for people of all ages, whether people are struggling with illness or totally healthy.  So, music therapy will touch all aspects of the mind, body, brain, and behavior. Also, Music can provide a distraction for the mind and slow the rhythms of the body and can alter our mood. Below are the steps in how does Music therapy works.

The first step is the attention where Music grabs our attention and distracts us from stimuli that lead to negative experiences.  This will explain the anxiety and pain-reducing effects of listening to Music during medical procedures.


The second step for doing music therapy work is through emotion, where Music can regulate the activity of brain regions, which is involved in the initiation, generation, maintenance, termination by the emotion method.


Music is related to cognition and can be related to memory processes by including encoding, storage, and decoding of musical information and events, which can be included in musical experiences. So, it is also involved in the analysis of musical syntax and musical meaning.


Music therapy will work through behavior 2hich evokes the conditions such as the movement patterns that are involved in walking, speaking, and grasping.

Music will affect communication, where it can play a significant role in relationships. It allows people who are verbal for gaining access to pre-verbal experiences and can people for interacting in a more emotional, relationship-oriented way than possible, relying on verbal language.
